This was your one moment to learn how to become a powerful commissioner, the 1 minute it was ever mentioned publicly at a township committee meeting that most don't attend. Residents should not be penalized for not participating. The Mayor had many direct communication channels where he could have provided details to give every resident a fair shot at running.
In the Video, Mayor Buontempto passed the question off to Counselor Collins on this night and before we post his answer verbatim, we put out two questions...
1. How would they inform us if this resident did not ask?
2. Why didn't they just say get 100 signatures on a petition by 9/1/22
Here is the Township Committee telling Holmdel Residents how to become nominated...
"With respect to the Faulkner Act Ordinance, under the Faulkner Act, If there were a final adoption of the Ordinance it would create a window for individuals to elect to run as candidates for the charter study commission, if they were interested and then the November ballot would contact a proposition yes or no, and also concurrent elections or individuals to the charter study"
It then took the clerk to mention petitions when Counselor Collins then added
"petitions will be filed in accordance to the Faulkner Act."
So we are in the midst of a pandemic, and Holmdel Residents now need to locate the Faulkner Act and educate themselves on this comprehensive material to understand any of this.
